This is another high end black emerged during the recent time. As a research and development project to search for a premium black tea, researchers in China separated a small group of arbor tea trees with unique characteristics desired from the Yunnan Province of China in 1961. They populated, selected, eliminated and further improved the special plant species over the next 20+ years in the area of the Guang Dong Province. The product was finally approved, filed and classified as one of the premium Chinese black teas in 1988, named as Ying Hong No 9.
Ying Hong No 9 has many characteristics of their ancestor, Yunnan black tea or Dian Hong, but with its unique profile. It is mellow, fragrant while refreshing at the same time with little astringency as some other products produced from the Yunnan arbor tea trees.
