Why "White" — The Downy Buds

The soft, silvery-white appearance comes from the fine down that covers only the youngest bud leaves. That downy character can't be faked — it survives only by picking the most tender buds — so it's a reliable sign of premium quality. In the cup it means a tea that's clean, sweet and smooth, with almost none of the grassy edge lower-grade green tea can have.


Why Our Jasmine Tea Is So Fragrant — The Scenting

The fragrance in real jasmine tea doesn't come from oils or added flavouring.

It comes from scenting (窨, xūn): fresh jasmine blossoms are layered with the tea over several nights so the leaf slowly drinks in the aroma, then the spent flowers are sifted out.

Each round is one "scenting" — and the more rounds, the deeper and longer-lasting the fragrance.

How to Brew Snow White Bouquet

This is a delicate, bud-picked jasmine green tea.

The goal is to draw the fragrance out gently — never to blast it with boiling water.

The Vessel

A glass infuser is ideal. The glass lets you watch the white buds open and rise.

A porcelain gaiwan also works well. It gives you good control over temperature.

If you use a gaiwan, lift the lid during brewing. Don't let the tea stew under a closed lid.

Avoid unglazed zisha clay pots for jasmine tea. The porous clay drinks in the fragrance you're paying for.

The Method

  • Temperature: 80–85°C. Never fully boiling. Let boiled water stand 2–3 minutes first.
  • Ratio: about 3g to 150ml. Lighter? Use 2g. Fuller? Up to 4g.
  • Awaken (optional): a quick splash of water over the buds. Swirl. Pour off within a few seconds.
  • First steep: 5–8 seconds only. Pour fast.
  • Later steeps: add about 5 seconds each round.
  • Re-steep: 3–4 times. The fragrance stays lively.

Common Mistakes

  • ❌ Boiling water. The fastest way to lose the jasmine and turn the cup bitter.
  • ❌ Brewing under a closed lid. This stews the tea and flattens the aroma.
  • ❌ Long steeps. Over-extracts the green tea and turns it astringent. Keep them short.
  • ❌ Zisha clay pots. They absorb the fragrance. Use glass or porcelain.

Storage Care for Snow White Bouquet

Jasmine tea holds its fragrance well when stored simply — and it readily picks up other smells, which is worth respecting.

  • Room temperature is fine: keep it in a cool, dry, dark place — a pantry shelf away from sunlight and heat. No need to refrigerate.
  • Keep it airtight: reseal between sessions so the aroma doesn't fade and moisture stays out. For longer storage, a Tea Bag Sealer helps keep the pack fresh.
  • Away from light and air: an opaque tin, ceramic caddy or sealed jar protects colour and fragrance best.
  • Keep it separate: store away from coffee, spices and anything strongly scented — jasmine tea absorbs odours easily (the same trait that lets it take on the flower so well).
