Pu-erh Zijuan (purple leaf)

Zijuan Pu-erh is a new product of mid-80's. There was an accidental discovery of a unusual (mutated) Pu-erh tea tree species in the area of Nannuo (南糯) in the Yunnan Province, that was bright purple allover, from leaves to the trunk.

The department of scientific research in teas (of the Yunnan Province) then cultivated from the the tea tree in 1986 and introduced it as a new product called Zijuan (紫娟 - borrowing the name from a main character in the famous Chinese novel 红楼梦  Dream of the Red Chamber).

Zijuan Pu-erh's brew is light and slightly bitter at the start, before turning into a refreshing Huigan (aftertaste).

Based on the limited studies done so far, it is believed that Zujuan is potent in various health benefits, specially in the area if reducing high blood pressure.
