Mao Feng (Yellow Mountain):

The Sweet, Effortless Spirit of the Clouds

As you can see from the breathtaking image besides,

Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) in Anhui Province is China's most legendary "Magic Mountain."

There is an ancient saying in Chinese tea culture:

"If there is a magic mountain, there must be magic herbs."

Perched high above the sea of clouds,

Mao Feng bushes grow in a mist-shrouded, high-altitude sanctuary.

If you find other green teas a bit too bold or bitter,

Huangshan Mao Feng is the perfect, gentle choice for you.

Hand-picked from the high-altitude tea gardens of Huangshan in Anhui Province, our certified premium Mao Feng loose leaf Chinese green tea is unlike any other.

What sets our premium Mao Feng loose leaf tea apart is its remarkable "Umami" sweetness and delicate texture.

Because of the unique high-altitude terroir, the leaves are packed with natural sweetness and lack the harsh astringency often found in common green teas.

It is an incredibly "easy-going" tea—refreshing, clean, and completely effortless to enjoy.

Every sip greets you with a sophisticated profile of delicate orchid undertones and a classic sweet roasted bean fragrance. It is more than just a drink; it is the taste of a fresh mountain breeze captured in a cup.

🍵 Brewing Guide

How to brew Mao Feng perfectly?

To truly appreciate the "Magic Herb" of Mt Yellow, you need to master the timing.

Mao Feng is all about layers—the first sip is about sweetness, and the following cups are about depth.

The Vessel: Gaiwan or Glass Infuser?

  • [The Gaiwan]: The traditional choice for tea connoisseurs. It allows you to control the pour with millisecond precision, perfect for "Flash Steeping."

  • Our Recommendation: Our [Glass Tea Infuser] is ideal here. It gives you the same precision as a Gaiwan but with the crystal-clear view of the leaves dancing in the water.

The "Flash Steep" Ritual (The Secret to Sweetness)

  • Temperature: 85°C ish. Precision temperature is vital to keep the liquor sweet and jade-green.
  • Ratio: 1:50. Use 3-4g of leaves for our 190ml Glass Infuser.

Step 1: Warm & Wake. Rinse your vessel with hot water to "wake up" the soul of the leaves.

Step 2: The First Pour (The 3-Second Rule).

Pour 85°C water in. For the very first infusion, decant (pour out) the tea after only 3 seconds.

Why? This "Flash Steep" captures only the lightest, sweetest top notes of the Mao Feng without any interference.

It is the purest "nectar" of the tea.

Step 3: Subsequent Infusions.

From the 2nd brew onwards, the leaves have fully awakened. Let it steep for about 10-20s to release the fuller body and complex mountain character.

Step 4: Keep it Cool. Always leave the lid off between brews. High-altitude green teas are delicate; letting them breathe prevents the leaves from "cooking" and preserves the orchid fragrance.

📦 Storage & Care

Protecting the Freshness

Green tea is delicate and acts like a "sponge" for odors.

Proper storage is non-negotiable for maintaining that vibrant, spring character:

  • The Fridge is Best:

To maintain the vibrant color and nutty flavor, we recommend storing your tea in the refrigerator.

  • Airtight Seal:

Ensure the bag is perfectly sealed. We highly recommend using our [Tea Bag Sealer] to lock out moisture and persistent fridge odors.

  • The Golden Rule (Crucial):

When removing tea from the fridge, wait a while
before opening the bag. Allowing the leaves to reach room temperature
prevents condensation from forming on the leaves, which would ruin the
tea instantly.

🌿 The Origins

18 Years of Sourcing from China’s #1 Mountain

  • The Terroir: Sourced from the core heritage sites around the temples of Huangshan (Mountain Yellow ), Anhui Province. The combination of high altitude, thick forest canopy, and perpetual mist creates a tea that is naturally low in bitterness and high in sweetness.

  • The Character: Defined by its ivory-green leaves, jade liquor, and a signature orchid and nutty bean aroma. It is the most "palate-friendly" of all famous Chinese green teas.

  • VGT Sourcing: For 18 years, Valley Green Tea has been the trusted destination to buy authentic Huangshan Mao Feng online in Australia. We bypass the mass markets to find families who still harvest according to the lunar calendar for peak flavor.

The Truth About Green Tea Bitterness
Many people think green tea is supposed to be bitter—but in the world of premium tea, bitterness is usually a sign of poor quality or incorrect brewing.

Our mission is to show you the "Sweet Spot": authentic teas like our Mao Feng that offer a smooth, sweet, and uplifting experience every time.
