Yixing Zisha teapot Da Hong Pao
Other name:
Da Hong Pao Zisha teapot, Purple sand teapot, Purple clay teapot, YiXing teapot, Da Hong Pao
Dao Hong Pao Zisha clay and teapot
Da Hong Pao is an exclusive Zisha clay produced in the Yixing area of the Jiang-Su Province, Chian. It's production started from the Ming-Qing Dynasty and the natural reserve of the clay is limited.
The production of Da Hong Pao teapots is labour intensive, from the start (preparation of the clay) to the finish. For example, it is reported if a clay is prepared by a machine instead of hand mixing, this substitute itself will demolish the classic and artistic 'pear skin' appearance of the surface, and reduce the water absorbance of the clay from 3-5% down to 1%.
Once made, a Da Hong Pao Zisha teapot displays a stunning scarlet red colour with a rich yet natural shine and apparent clay granule surface.
A Da Hong Pao Zisha teapot is believed to be superior in various aspects for brewing Oolong teas and Pu-erh teas. It is truly a teapot to treasure and enjoy.
