Tian Jian Premium (天尖) — Top-Grade Anhua Hei Cha, 1kg Basket
Other names: 天尖, Premium Tian Jian Tea, Anhua Dark Tea, Anhua Hei Cha, Dark Tea, Hei Cha
Welcome to the world of hei cha — to me, the most mysterious, characterful tea China makes.
Green tea is youth: all fresh and bright. Dark tea is the grace of age. Both are beautiful — they just carry the flavour of different seasons of life.
If the golden-flower Fu Brick is the bold heart of hei cha, then Tian Jian is its bright, elegant side — and this is our finest expression of it.
What Is Tian Jian (Dark Tea)?
Tian Jian is the highest, most tender grade of Anhua dark tea (hei cha) — the top of Anhua's famous "three tips." Made from first-grade leaf and only lightly fermented, it stays cleaner and fresher than the pressed bricks. This Premium lot is our top-grade pick: a high-aroma 2015 Tian Jian, now beautifully aged.
Tian Jian Premium Tasting Notes
Tight, dark, richly coloured dry leaf gives a bright amber brew and a deep, mature, mellow flavour — clean and lightly sweet, with a high, lifted aroma that sets the premium grade apart.
Because it's tender and lightly fermented, Tian Jian likes a gentle hand — brew it lightly and don't let it stew (see the Brewing Guide below).
Why the Premium Grade
This is a higher-grade, high-aroma Tian Jian from 2015, presented in the traditional 1kg bamboo basket — as much a collector's piece as a daily pleasure. The basket is the classic way Anhua tip teas are stored and aged.
Just after an everyday size? Try our Tian Jian loose (100g / 350g) — the same style in a smaller, first-grade 2018 leaf.
