Taiwan Oolong tea has long been known for its premium quality.
FuJian - the province across the Taiwan sea on the mainland China is the birth place of Oolong teas. The cultivation of Taiwan Oolong tea did not start until the mid-19th century. In many aspects the Taiwan high mountain rolled Oolong teas are very similar to the famous FuJian Oolong tea cousin, Tie Guan Yin (Iron Buddha).
The Taiwan high mountain rolled Oolong has however developed its distinctive characteristics since that are not matched by others. The tea plants grow on high mountains with long and heave mist cover and short sunlight, an ideal growing conditions for the high mountain Oolong teas. The teas produced are classically:
- strong and full tea leaves
- mellow flavor and smooth texture
- intense and long lasting, refreshing after taste that is not matched by any others.
There are a few mountains in Taiwan known to produce premium quality Oolong tea, Mt Yu is one of them. The Oolong produced in various mountains have their subtly different qualities. Taiwan high mountain rolled Oolong is classically graded according the altitude of plantation, the highest peaks produce the top quality teas.
The Mt Yu (Jade Mountain 玉山) Taiwan Oolong tea offered here is produced from a plantation over 2000 meters above sea level. It has a distinctive high mountain pure and high aroma, beautiful jade color tea brew with mellow flavor and smooth texture. The intense and refreshing aftertaste lingers for a long time after the tea is consumed, only draws one to return for another cup.
