Bamboo Matcha Whisk (Chasen) — 100-Prong

A traditional bamboo matcha whisk — the Bai Ben Li ("hundred-prong", or chasen) — hand-carved from a single piece of premium bamwood. Its fine tines are what turn ceremonial matcha green tea powder and hot water into a smooth, creamy cup with a fine layer of froth on top. The essential partner to any matcha bowl, and the heart of every matcha tea set.

  • Type: Bai Ben Li 100-prong bamboo whisk (chasen)
  • Crafted from: one whole piece of premium bamboo
  • Use it for: whisking ceremonial-grade matcha into a silky, frothy cup
  • Pairs with: any matcha bowl — a classic matcha bowl and whisk duo
  • Care: water hotter than 80°C can warp the tines — always whisk at around 80°C

How to whisk matcha

  1. Add ½–1 teaspoon of ceremonial matcha green tea powder to a matcha bowl, depending on how strong you like it.
  2. Pour in hot water at about 80°C (not boiling — it protects both the flavour and the whisk).
  3. Whisk briskly in a straight back-and-forth "W" motion until the tea turns creamy and a layer of froth forms on top.
  4. Enjoy straight from the bowl.
