This is a Chinese Gaiwan of a uniqie glaze called Ji Lan (霁蓝). Ji Lan glazing technique was first invented during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It is characterized by a deep ocean like light or dark blue, perfectly clean, even and stable. Some describes it as blue gem like bright and stable as blue gem.
This is a Chinese Gaiwan glazed by the premium dark blue Ji Lan glaze and decorated by a pair nesting herons, symbolizing love and harmony. It has the ultra smooth surface and texture of the Ji Lan, deep ocean dark blue color as the background that presents a sense of mysterious, yet rich spirituality.
