This is a personal tea set for one — a single easy gaiwan and cup in classic Qing Ci celadon. Just the thing for a quiet cup at your desk, in the morning, or wherever you take a moment to yourself.

Qing Ci (青瓷), or celadon, is one of China's oldest fine ceramics — over 1,700 years of history, at its height in the Song dynasty. It's known for a thin but surprisingly strong body under a soft jade-green glaze. This one is different from the usual glossy celadon: it has a soft matte finish, paired with sections of earthy, textured clay as contrast, and painted with an orchid and a dragonfly. Understated and tactile, with the simple, smooth outline celadon does so well.

It comes in a soft padded bag, so it travels as easily as it sits at home. A lovely little tea set gift, and a calm everyday companion for one.

Ceramic gaiwan — neutral and quick to cool, so it brews delicate teas without stewing them. Best for green tea, white tea, yellow tea and young raw pu-erh.

Ceramic teapot — holds heat a little longer. A versatile all-rounder, best for black tea and relaxed everyday brewing.

Zisha clay teapot — retains heat and seasons over time, deepening the brew. Best for roasted oolong, black tea, ripe pu-erh and hei cha. Use one tea per pot, as the clay holds onto flavour.

Duanni clay is a porous type of zisha clay that breathes more than most. It softens astringency, which makes it the one clay that suits young raw pu-erh as well as lighter teas.
