Cha He

Cha He - composed by two parts by name. Cha is the sound of tea in Chinese, and He (荷) is louts. This device is in the shape of an up-curled lotus leaf, designed for displaying and inspecting the dry tea leaves, which is a major part of assessing the quality of a premium tea. It then acts as a funnel to facilitate adding the dry leaves to the tea brewing vessel. 

This is a Dehua white ceramic Cha-He, made to facilitate the inspection of the dry tea leaves and the addition of the leaves to a tea brewing vessel, should it be a Gaiwan or teapot. This Cha He is decorated by the an elegant lotus art work in the style of imperial blue.
