Da Hong Pao belongs to Oolong/Wulong tea family. It is named after its appearance – big red stretched tea leaves. It is one of the top ten Chinese teas and was once portrayed as ‘Royal tea’ as a result of its low production and rich flavor. As a result of it being produced in Wu Yi rocky mountain areas, it also classified to be in a special group of Oolong teas called Wu Yi Rock Tea.
Da Hong Pao brew is lightly reddish, clear and bright in color. Terms used to describe its favor include fragrant, mildly roasted (nutty) yet refreshing & tenderly sweet, followed by a lingering after taste. The best time of having Da Hong Pao is for an afternoon tea, a good cup is a pure indulgence.
Like all teas made of Camellia sinensis, Da Hong Pao is rich in anti-oxidants with all the associated health benefits, such as lowering blood cholesterol level and blood pressure, cancer preventive and anti-obesity.
There have been some recent claims that the Wu Yi teas have super fat burning power. We believe that although there are abundant evidences reported by science researches that teas (especially green, Oolong/Wulong and Pu-erh tea) have body slimming effects, ‘ultimate fat burner’ claim is however irresponsibly exaggerated. I have thoroughly enjoyed your quality loose teas and have always received pleasantly surprised smiles from overseas Chinese guests to whom I have served them to. As the weather is cooling here in Victoria and I am looking forward to exploring your Pu er range.
A great tea. Rich and full flavour. Definitely good enough for me to consider getting a yixing pot for it.
This is one of the best Oolong teas I have tasted. It has a nice citrus flavour that's very refreshing. Will be ordering more! :)
